I am not 100% sure on this one myself, since Jace right now has a lot on his hands with the war brewing as Valentine gathers his forces, kidnapped Clary’s mom, plus all the drama with home life. He goes out to hunt or to investigate something tied to the upcoming war, and not much else these days. However, I know that she has ties to werewolves? Maybe Luke would be a good person that she can meet up with. The New York pack isn’t quite under his control yet, but he is just a few days away from becoming the Alpha.

friends

It can be said that Jace does not have many friends, and few of those friends exist outside of the Nephilim. At the Institute itself, one of the few people that he counts on (outside of Alec and Izzy, see “Family”) is Hodge Starkweather. While the man is a former member of the circle, he trusts him as a student trusts a pupil. For some time now, Hodge has been a source of support and training, and Jace truly considers him to be a trusted ally.

More recently, Magnus Bane has proven to be an ally who will be willing to work with the Nephilim in order to keep his own people safe. He does not fully trust the warlock, but he has slid him more into the term of ally than he might consider other downworlders to be in. If he has noticed the spark between Magnus and Alec, then he hasn’t mentioned it to anyone.

enemies

Jace Wayland has a bit of a reputation among downworlders. As a Shadowhunter, he is naturally their enemy when it comes time to draw sides, but he does recognize when it is important to play nice and make deals. He is a “kill on sight” kind of person with downworlders, but he will put an end to them if he catches them harming others, and he will do so very efficiently.

Members of the Circle, especially Valentine Morgenstern himself do not get such a courtesy. Many assassins have been sent out by Valentine, and Jace has always killed any that have crossed his path without a question or second thought. He sees them as absolutely enemies of everyone, and will stop at little to put an end to them, once and for all.

It should be mentioned that Simon Lewis does deserve a place here, though more so as a rival than an actual enemy. He sees how close Clary and Simon are, and that makes things complicated for his own budding feelings for Clary, especially with the way that Simon looks at her. More so, though, he sees Simon as a liability than anything else. He is a mundane that Clary will do anything to keep safe, and that has proven to be more of a burden and an advantage…

family

Jace has no memory of his mother, but he was raised by his father, Michael Wayland, who trained him to be the best Shadowhunter he could be. Michael seemed to believe that Jace had a destiny to live up to. His training might have been considered downright intense or cruel at times, but it has made Jace stronger, and, even though he was a harsh disciplinarian, Jace did care deeply for his father. When the Circle killed him, Jace felt a strong sense in personal vengeance in making them pay for what they did.

After the death of his father, Jace was adopted by the Lightwood family. He looks at Alec and Isabelle Lightwood especially as brother and sister to him, especially since Alec is his parabatai. He feels a strong emotional attachment to the both of them, and knows them about as well as he knows himself (he believes.) There is little that he would not do for them. They are always bantering, and there is little that anyone could do to convince him that they are not as his own flesh and blood to him.

lovers

(Note, he is completely oblivious to the fact that Alec Lightwood has feelings for him, and they are definitely not requited. Alec is his parabatai and like a brother to him. He does love Alec in his own way, it will just never be that kind of love.)

Jace has a reputation for being flirtatious and cocky. As a result, he has caught the eye of quiet a few people who would love to get to know him better. There has been no one serious, though, who has caught his eye. Part of it is that he is actually far too busy doing actual Shadowhunter things, and the other part is that there has been no one really special enough to catch his eye.

Clary Fray might be the end of that. From the moment that they met, Clary hasn’t treated him the way most people have. She took him by surprise when she could see through his glamour, and since then has kept him on his toes and intrigued. He has taken it upon himself, personally, to protect and train Clary, despite the protests of other people, and truly wants to help her, as well as figure out the mystery that is Clary Fray.

When Clary smiled and spoke, he could not help but smile back. It was a softness that he had not felt on his face in weeks. It was the smile that he was certain would be lost with the knowledge of the simple and singular word that he could call her. “Sister.” It had chilled and burned him. It was hardly a death sentence, but Jace could feel that something that night was coming to an end, and as long as he lived in that reality, it was never going to come alive again. He shifted on his feet, looking down at her, nervous for a moment in the same way he had been that day in the greenhouse, on her birthday…

With a depressed realization, he recognized that that moment had been the last that he was truly happy. It was the moment that shattered the echoing voice of his father in the back of his head, and forced it to recede to the shadows. Maybe his father had been wrong about love. It felt wonderful, and uplifting. It felt like nothing that he had ever felt before, and he had kissed a lot of girls. It raised him up, as corny as that sounded, and made him want to kiss her again and again.

But that was easily broken, and Jace understood what his father meant. To love was to be opened to the joys of the world, but to let yourself be open to all of the pain. Clary was his sun, and he flew to high. He wondered just how much pain Icarus was in when he landed. And maybe that’s why he was in this crazy dream; Because in dreams there is no pain. As in “Pinch me, I’m…” It was such a crazy concept. He thought that dreams were supposed to protect the mind from the things it could not handle. Jace just knew, though, that he would never want to leave this place, and that waking would be crashing to the ground with nothing much feathers and wax gathered around his broken heart.

By the Angel, though, the crash had not come yet! When she smiled, he smiled, and it reached his eyes and lit them up better than the sun lit up the ocean. “Are you calling me Prince Charming?” he said, feeling like he was plucking the words out of the air as if he was playing a harp. He voice was so musical, and her body flowing from the sea of people as if she were crafted from the most golden of magic and fire. Her dress reflected the gold and red around her, and she was a light as a prefect flame. Taking his eyes off of her was an impossibility, and he was wrapped in the spell of her presence, her sounds, her scent. It was dreadful being this far away from her, and he made swift work to destroy the distance between them. With the logic of a dream he found her hands in his, and a quake of energy rushed through him. She was the most lovely tuning fork, resonance rushing through his body and his mind.

”In lieu of a glass slipper then, Clary. May I have this dance?”

Jace knew he was not alone. This was not a figurative, in the soul kind of way, nor was it a “no one is ever alone in the city” sentimentality. This was a literal, in this moment, in the deep part of this alley, so close to urban, tetanus riddled landscape of the modern wasteland, Jace was being followed. He had been for quite some time. A few city blocks now, at the very least, but quite possibly longer. It was hard to tell. That meant that it was not Alec who was following him, a relief all on its own a relief. Right now, the last person on Earth that he wanted to see was his parabatai, which was saying quite a bit….

It was also why he opted to turn down this alley. His tail would have to forgo the crowded streets and the high skyscrapers roofs as cover. The narrow walls would give him cover from anyone snooping from a rooftop, and the deepness of the alley made it impossible to not be spotted. That meant putting himself out in the open, but what did he care? He was ready to fight whoever this was head on. What did he have to fear? No. Jace was better then fear. If there was one thing he would take away from Valentine’s most recent lesson, it was that.

His eyes danced along the walls. He counted the shadows; he let his breathing fall into the cadence of the city. Somewhere beyond these walls, the traffic was racing by without any knowledge of who he was and what he did. Somewhere, a gutter ran and dripped water, and it knocked into the back of a dumpster, subtle, his new heartbeat. Golden eyes flashed against the dark, contrasting the metropolitan poetry of the scene with a primitive look that suited hawk more than man. Try as he might, he could not keep the small tug of a smile wrestled away from his features. It started as a twitch, but when he spoke into the alley, his eyes gave him away.

“If you wanted to get me alone,” he called, the smile now inching across his cheeks, both parts humor and taunt. If it wanted him hurt, let them see the promise of death. If not, then let them see mirth. “There had to be a better way than this.” His hands were in front of him, relaxed, palms turned out to show that he was unarmed, if that was important to them, and his legs apart, relaxed. He stood in the universal sign for “I am not a threat” even though he was. He didn’t have to be, but he really, really was.
